What is International Day of Forests?

The 21st of March is International Day of Forests, and we want you to get involved and celebrate with us!

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the 21st March the International Day of Forests in 2012, and on this day thousands of people around the world get involved to shine a light on one of our most precious natural resources - forests.

International Day of Forests 2024

Trees make life better for all of us – for people, for wildlife and for the planet. They help to cool and clean our air, lock up carbon, reduce flooding, provide sustainable raw materials, and are our best hope in combatting the climate crisis. As well as physical benefits, spending time in nature is proven to hugely benefit our mental health and wellbeing.

2024's International Day of Forests theme is 'Forests and Innovation: New solutions for a Better World'. With new technology developing year upon year, new innovations to plant, grow and support forests is ever-growing.

How we support forests

We have planted over 2 million trees in the 61 square miles that makes up the Forest of Marston Vale and have taken tree coverage in the area from 3.6% to over 15% in under 30 years. We create and maintain woodlands for our local communities to enjoy and benefit from, as well as the wildlife habitats within them.

Please get involved with this year's International Day of Forests and help us celebrate. Any funds raised as part of the celebrations will be used to continue to create your local Community Forest for everyone to benefit from.
