Combatting the climate emergency one tree at a time

Our Community Woodlands are a great place to explore, meet friends, get exercise and encounter wildlife. But they’re also so much more than that...

As industries and Governments investigate ways they can reach carbon net zero, as a Community Forest we have a simple but powerful local tool at our disposal: trees.

Global warming is happening at an alarming rate - scientists predict we're on track for an average global increase of 3.7-4.8°C within the next 80 years (with some areas seeing an even bigger increase than that).

The recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report warned us that global temperatures need to be kept from rising by more than 1.5°C - and we've already passed 1°C...

Children being born today will face record high temperatures as standard, and the additional environmental and social challenges they face will be unprecedented: fires, floods, storms, droughts, food shortages, an even bigger biodiversity crisis and irreparable damage to our ecosystems unless we act now.

Climate change is the biggest global threat to people and wildlife - there is no Planet B. We need to lower our emissions and mitigate against the damage already done by removing COfrom our atmosphere.

Leading environmental experts say that we can slow global heating, lessen it's impact and avoid catastrophe if we act fast.

Trees make life better for all of us – they help to cool and clean our air, lock up carbon, reduce flooding, provide sustainable raw materials, and are our best hope in combatting the climate crisis.

We can make a difference in the global fight against climate change by planting trees and supporting woodlands in our local community. Trees capture and store carbon through photosynthesis, locking atmospheric carbon up in living wood, roots and deadwood - even in the soil surrounding the woodland area.

We’ve already planted over 2 million trees across the Marston Vale area. We've grown tree cover in the Forest from 3% when we started, to over 15% today. The woodland we’ve created already remove over 4,917 tonnes of CO2 from our atmosphere every year - that’s the equivalent to around 2,000 family cars.

And there's more we can do, but we need your support. Help us look after our existing woodland and plant 5 million more trees:
