What's going on News Site news - bird surveys at Folly Wood Forest of Marston Vale Volunteer Rolf has been keeping busy over the last few months - as well as being one of our volunteer guided walk leaders he's been out in his local Community Woodland at Folly Wood, visiting and surveying birds. By visiting and recording species a month apart he's been able to compile the following, based on the location and frequency of singing males... List of probable breeding bird species and numbers of territories: Song thrush - 4 Garden warbler - 3 Blackbird - 4 Wren - 6 Robin - 3 Blackcap - 8 Chiffchaff - 8 Linnet - 3 Willow warbler - 4 Greenfinch - 2 Whitethroat - 6 Goldfinch - 2 Lesser whitethroat - 1 Dunnock - 2 In addition to these possible breeding birds Rolf also reported a number of other species whilst on site: bullfinch; great tit; blue tit; green woodpecker; cuckoo; chaffinch; sparrowhawk and red kite. As Rolf himself put it "quite good for a little patch", and we're in agreement - great work, Rolf!
