Forest of Marston Vale Volunteer Rolf has been keeping busy over the last few months - as well as being one of our volunteer guided walk leaders he's been out in his local Community Woodland at Folly Wood, visiting and surveying birds.

By visiting and recording species a month apart he's been able to compile the following, based on the location and frequency of singing males...

List of probable breeding bird species and numbers of territories:

Song thrush - 4

Garden warbler - 3

Blackbird - 4

Wren - 6

Robin - 3

Blackcap - 8

Chiffchaff - 8

Linnet - 3

Willow warbler - 4

Greenfinch - 2

Whitethroat - 6

Goldfinch - 2

Lesser whitethroat - 1

Dunnock - 2

In addition to these possible breeding birds Rolf also reported a number of other species whilst on site: bullfinch; great tit; blue tit; green woodpecker; cuckoo; chaffinch; sparrowhawk and red kite.

As Rolf himself put it "quite good for a little patch", and we're in agreement - great work, Rolf!
