Volunteer Day - Ride edge management Be part of something amazing! Meet new people, improve your physical and mental wellbeing, share your skills and learn new ones - all while supporting your local Community Forest. Join us for our next volunteer day on Thursday 10th October and help us with Ride edge management at Shocott Spring, Cotton End. We would really appreciate your help! At Shocott Spring we have very wide grassy verges along the paths, full of wildflowers. This is important habitat for pollinators and other invertebrates, including butterflies which we survey for on site. To maintain these open areas, we need to coppice the scrub that’s starting to grow on a yearly rotation. This allows more light to reach the woodland floor, maintaining the biodiversity of the rides, while keeping the structural diversity of the woodland.
