Volunteer Day - Meadow Raking Be part of something amazing! Meet new people, improve your physical and mental wellbeing, share your skills and learn new ones - all while supporting your local Community Forest. Join us for our next volunteer day on Thursday 19th September and help us with meadow raking at the Millennium Country Park, Marston Moretaine. We would really appreciate your help! Every year we cut our meadows to encourage their wildflower diversity. It is important that we rake and clear the cuttings as if left they will rot down and enrich the soil. Enriched soil encourages the growth of vigorous grasses and weeds such as nettles, that outcompete the other less common species we are trying to encourage. The more diversity we have in our natural habitats, then the more bees, birds, animals and other insects there will be. All you need to know: Meet outside the barn at the Millennium Country Park, Marston Moretaine at 9.30am (you can go to the reception at the Forest Centre if you are unsure where the barn is) All tools are provided Please wear old clothes and sturdy footwear with good ankle support Parking charges do not apply when volunteering - please make sure that you give your registration number when you sign in for your task Free tea and coffee is provided Activities are subject to change, depending on weather and staff resources on the day Please contact our ranger team on the below email address to register your interest, or if you have any questions about the day To help us plan and manage resources it is essential that you register your interest.
