Captain Tom Portrait unveiled Local Artist Debbie Walker unveiled her stunning, acrylic portrait of Captain Sir Tom Moore this weekend at the Forest Centre. It might feel like a long time ago now, but earlier in the year Captain Tom made the global press with his decision to walk 100-laps of his garden to raise money for the NHS, eventually raising over £32 million. From his back garden in Marston Moretaine, he inspired millions and brought a lot of positivity to the press at a time when it was all doom and gloom. He’s just got such a lovely, warm face – I found him really inspiring. -Debbie Walker Normally painting animals, Debbie amazingly only started painting portraits of people this year but she has perfectly captured this national treasure slash local legend. Displaying the portrait at the Forest Centre was arranged by Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for Bedfordshire, Helen Nellis, as part of the ongoing, country wide celebration of Captain Tom; including the area of woodland in the Millennium Country Park which was dedicated as ‘Captain Tom Spinney’ for his 100th birthday, earlier in the year.
