11.45am The Last Battle
An Edinburgh 6-piece folk pop band who use boy/girl harmonies and various instruments such as mandolin and cello, to sing songs of love, loss, death and the sea. They are named after the seventh and final novel in The Chronicles of Narnia series by C. S. Lewis, (not the Sega video game of the same name!). There are two couples and one pair of sisters in the band. Theyformed in July 2009 and played their first show in October. They have shared stages and raised platforms with First Aid Kit, Dawn Landes, Meursault, Eagleowl and many others. Recently described by The Scotsman us as "Low-Key Nu-Folk Loveliness", one blogger even proclaimed they were "Hauntingly Beautiful". In March 2010 they signed to Edinburgh indie label 17 Seconds Records, home to Aberfeldy amongst others.

12.45pm Landermason
"A stunning blend of diverse musical influences which captivated our audience from the very first few seconds, all the way to the sumptuous encore. Fiona and Paul are a great song-writing team, and deliver their unique music with such passion and style. What great imagination to present Brubeck on a penny whistle alongside haunting contemporary folk melodies and really fresh takes on some regional classics. The music was complimented by informative introductions and gentle humour to keep the audience totally engaged".

2.00pm Jack McNeill and Charley Heys
Jack and Charlie met while studying at the Birmingham Conservatoire and started playing together as a duo just before Easter in 07 when they would meet regularly in the bathroom of their house in Birmingham for late night practice sessions! Both members of the Birmingham Conservatoire Folk Ensemble run by Joe Broughton they have also joined musical forces with Birmingham-based band the Old Dance School for some special nights of music-making around the country.
They both recently completed their degrees and are now on the road armed with new tunes and songs to take to the far corners of the country!

3.15pm The Churchfitters
This Brittany based group of musicians from England, Ireland and France is taking UK audiences by storm with their unique and energetic perfomances. Four dynamic personalities present a fast-paced infectious show full of fresh, original songwriting as well as rearranged songs and tunes from the British Isles, uniting the rhythms of rock, pop and jazz with the universal appeal of traditional music.
Outstanding vocals and an astonishing array of acoustic instruments including fiddle, double bass, bouzouki, flute, saxophone, guitar, banjo, dulcimer, whistle and mandolin allow them to create their unmistakable sound. A large dose of humour, a measure of eccentricity and an abiding sense of fun complete the band's recipe for truly entertaining performances.
DAVE PEGG, FAIRPORT CONVENTION AND CROPREDY FESTIVAL :
"I knew as soon as I saw Boris's instruments that the Churchfitters were going to be interesting. However, on watching their set I can honestly say that they are the most musically inventive quartet that I have seen in decades. They received a standing ovation from the festival. Go and see them and you will understand why. A must.”
PHIL BEER :
"Great band...very cool Celtic rock outfit. Very different."
CHESTER FOLK FESTIVAL :
"Stunning, energetic performances, inspired arrangements, superlative stagecraft."

Hemlock Morris
They don't come much darker than Hemlock Morris...Hemlock Morris Dancers are Bedford’s only mixed (male and female) morris dance side. Born through the desire of a group of young women in Bedford wishing to dance morris dances, Hemlock has gone against the conventions of ‘male only morris’, hoping to bring a new lease of life to an age-old tradition. Media hype would have you believe Morris Dancing in any form will be extinct in 20 years – well, not in Bedford!
Hemlock Morris has attracted predominantly younger members than your stereotypical Morris Dance side. Perhaps it’s the ‘alternative’ painted faces or gothic-style apparel; either way, we like to think that our take on traditional dances bring a breath of fresh air to what many people regard as an out of date tradition, and that our enthusiasm and obvious enjoyment of what we do brings a smile to the faces of those that come to watch us.

12.45 Faeries Wear Boots
Faeries Wear Boots: a band born out of the love of three integral things - folk music, faeries, and impractical footwear… and in case you recognise the name – it is a Black Sabbath song from the Album Paranoid!
Definitely a band from the darker side of the enchanted forest, Faeries Wear Boots delight in stamping their own big boot-print on some of their favourite folk music and songs from British and Irish traditions.
Like all faerie music, Faeries Wear Boots’ sound is equally enchanting and eerie - gentle and dangerous simultaneously. They come from a world where haunting flutes and didgeridoos mingle with the distinctive sound of the Irish banjo, bodhran and bouzouki, all complimented by the unexpected twist of an electric guitar accompaniment. These faeries particularly enjoy lulling you into a state of pure bliss with a delicate hornpipe, before an unexpected key change lurches the tune head over heels in to a frenzied reel that echoes with the stomping beat of a hundred faerie feet! Never the subtlest of bands, you’ll recognise them by their distinctive Celtic tunes, frantic rhythms and (of course) very big boots. |

2.00pm Cathryn Craig and Brian Willoughby
“Former member of Strawbs, Brian is surely one of the finest guitarists ever to have graced the portals of FOTM! He plays with delicacy and fervour, with fire and with sensitivity. Our musicians sat in total awe (their guitars firmly locked in their cases!) With his lovely partner, Cathryn Craig, he has formed a brilliant ( and I mean that word ) partnership. With a voice to cut through the sternest of hearts and a commitment to her music that is an example to everyone, Cathryn now has a wonderfully creative and moving partnership with Brian. Their love and decency shines through in performance.” Review from Folk on The Moor folk club.
www.craigandwilloughby.com
Cathryn Craig has sung with The Righteous Brothers, Shel Silverstein, Jorma Kaukonnen, Bobby Bare, Garth Brooks and Chet Atkins.
“exceptional talent up there with Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin “(Froots)…
Brian Willoughby began his career with Mary Hopkin and played with Strawbs for 25 years. He has worked with Monty Python, New World, Joe Brown, Roger Whittaker, Jim Diamond and Sweet’s Brian Connolly. Strawbs offshoots High Society and gold award-winning The Monks feature Brian on lead guitar.
Solo CDs…Black & White…”Simply very good contemporary songwriting” (Froots)… Fingers Crossed…”impeccably crafted album moves seamlessly through just about the whole gamut of styles…. lavishly-documented tuning details will delight many a picker.” (Guitarist).
“sublime guitar work together with one of the finest voices around and you are on to a winner” (Folking.com)
“…a class act…”Maverick
“…they catch a mood that could produce goosebumps on sheet metal…” The Glasgow Herald |
