Try these walks

~ Flattest walk
Stewartby Station to Lidlington Station via the Forest Centre. Whilst missing the hills and views into the vale, this walk can be done using public transport (not Sundays), and avoids the Greensand Ridge. Heavy clay soils from the country park to Lidlington. This section is easiest to walk in a dry Summer. Some steps and a stile. Approx. 6.5 km.

~ Hills walk
Lidlington Station to Stewartby Station omits the country park and a crossing of the vale, but includes Ampthill. Be prepared! Uphill! Approx. 15 km.

~ Thigh-busting
From the B530 via the Forest Centre to Lidlington Station ~ clay all the way, except Forest trails! Walk in winter for strongest effect! Catch the train back to Millbrook for Forest Centre refreshments. Bus out from Bedford and return on the train, except Sundays. Approx.9 km.

~ Friends walk
Half the trail, easiest with 2 cars. Forest Centre, via Millbrook, to Ampthill. Park one car in Ampthill , then travel together to the Forest Centre. Ampthill, via Kings Wood, to the Forest Centre, is the other half. Great views for either part of the walk but remember the Forest Centre car park closing times, and to collect your friend's car!

~ Lunch Loops
By public or private transport, short sections can be walked with justifiable hostelry stops. Millbrook, Lidlington, Houghton Conquest all offer good lunches while Ampthill and the Forest Centre offer food throughout the day. For instance, park at the Forest Centre, walk to Lidlington, lunch in the Green Man, train back to Millbrook or Stewartby. Or leave one car at the Greensand Ridge car park at Millbrook, drive to Forest Centre, walk to Lidlington and carry on to have lunch at The Chequers in Millbrook. The Forest Centre will provide food to go from 10am. Ampthill is a small market town, Stewartby, Lidlington, Marston and Houghton Conquest all have village shops.
