Out and About - Bedfordshire Forest Walks

With the Forest of Marston Vale on the doorstep of thousands of people, the opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors are widespread and increasing. With improved networks of footpaths and bridleways, new cycle routes, wildlife havens and places of interest, the Vale has something to offer everybody.

A number of circular walks are within the Forest of Marston Vale area. Look out for the easy to follow circular waymarking; blue on public bridleways, yellow on public footpaths, and white on permissive footpaths.

www.letsgo.org.uk is the web site that contains information about walking, cycling and riding routes, as well as nature reserves, picnic sites, country parks and more, throughout Bedfordshire. Conceived and managed by the Forest of Marston Vale, Let's Go! is packed with places to visit; from challenging cross-county hikes to places to take the family for a picnic and unwind in peace.

Routes and sites on Let's Go! are audited by trained volunteers, for slopes, path surface types, stiles, gates and more, so you can assess whether you will be able to enjoy a visit.

Let's Go! was created by the Forest of Marston Vale with the financial support of Bedfordshire County Council, Bedfordshire Rural Transport Partnership and the Countryside Agency.

Please remember the Country Code. Most land within the Vale is private, without open public access, and provides the livelihood for many of our farmers. Care for the land in the Vale, and keep to the waymarked paths.

WHEREVER YOU GO, FOLLOW THE COUNTRY CODE

  • Enjoy the countryside and respect its life and work
  • Guard against all risk of fire
  • Fasten all gates
  • Keep your dogs under close control
  • Keep to public paths across farmland
  • Use gates and stiles to cross fences, hedges and walls
  • Leave livestock, crops and machinery alone
  • Take your litter home
  • Help to keep all water clean
  • Protect wildlife, plants and trees
  • Take special care on country roads
  • Make no unnecessary noise
