During the summer months you can see many different butterflies flying around the vale.

They are all different shapes and sizes, but mainly they are all different colours!

Common Blue

This is our most common blue butterfly.

It can be found almost all over the British Isles. They can be seen from as early as April and as late as October. It is only the male that is blue, the female is brown.

Brimstone

This is one of the first butterflies to appear in spring as the adults overwinter in England.

You can't miss this butterfly's bright yellow colour!!

They can usually be seen in open woodland, hedgerows, and gardens where they like the shrubs and woodland edge to lay their eggs.

Peacock Butterfly

You can see these butterflies all over the country in open fields and woodland.

It has four 'eyes' on its wings, which look like a Peacocks. It is a chestnut colour with brown edges. See if you can find one and then colour in the picture.

White Admiral

This butterfly can be found in the southern woodlands of England from late June to August.

The caterpillars of the White Admiral eat Honeysuckle which grows as strands in dappled light in woodlands.

There are a total of 58 species of butterflies to be found in Britain, so keep looking for all those different colours!!!
