Forest Volunteers in action...

Volunteers carry out a very wide variety of tasks, all contributing to the creation of the Forest. Here are some examples; you might be surprised at the range!

Tree planting

Every winter we plant thousands of trees in the Forest and Volunteers are crucial in making this possible.

These days planting events are big; over 350 people came to the one in December 2011 at Top Farm, Lidlington . Volunteers help by moving gear, putting up tents, welcoming tree planters and showing everyone how it's done. As ever, they are the friendly  face of the Forest. It's usually wet and cold but so worthwhile.

Office work

Joan, Andy, Maggie, Jean, Sue and Michael spend Tuesdays dealing with the usual office tasks, sorting out all the emails, printing off labels, keeping the database up to date (quite a job sometimes).

Katherine  and Bob manage Let's Go from their homes.

Every time it's Commentree week we set up in a larger room to sort out the numbers of Commentrees needed, putting them in small, medium or large envelopes which we have already put the labels on. The last job is sticking on the stamps.

Its all good fun!

Volunteer Seasonal wardens

Steve, Graham, Andrew, Bernard, Diane, Nigel, David, Derek, Don, Martin, Tony and Danny will be spending the next few months putting a smile on the Park's face by trimming, strimming, mowing, litterpicking and generally making it a welcoming and attractive place to be.

Woodworks!

Woodworks, our annual festival of wood and all things wood related, will be held on Sat 1st and Sun 2nd September 2012.

There will be childrens' activities, storytelling for all age groups, hog roast and lovely food, lots of stalls, chainsaw sculptures, charcoal making demonstrations, live music and a beer tent and lots more.

Lets hope the weather will be good.

Guided walks

Health Walks have being going on at the Forest Centre since October 2003. The numbers fluctuate from 6 to 26, it all depends on the weather.  These walks are a starting point for most people.  Some have graduated from the hour long forest trail and head for longer and harder walks elsewhere.  We cater for slow walkers and faster walkers, who are accompanied by two trained volunteers.  Without the volunteers the walks would stop, and without the people the volunteers would stop being committed to their Wednesday exercise.  We need you and you need us.

Forest Centre  10.30 am to approximately 11.30am Wednesdays

Bird Walks take place approximately once a month and are led by our expert bird-watching volunteers.  they last about 3 hours.  For details please see What's On.

Sunday Strolls, led by a volunteer, take place on the first Sunday of every month and last about 2 hours.  During the walk we will tell you a little about the origin of the Forest and Park, along with some information about the surrounding area.  No need to book, just turn up at Reception about 10.15 for a 10.30 start.
